Chronic Pain Treatment

What Causes chronic pain?

Chronic pain is any pain or condition that has been present for longer than 3 months. The cause and propagation of chronic pain will be different for every individual. Sometimes chronic pain can begin with an injury that doesn’t heal properly, or it may have other contributors such as health conditions and lifestyle factors. In some situations there is sensitisation of the central nervous system which means it loses the ability to differentiate between truly painful stimulus and other more normal types of sensation.

Sometimes however, chronic pain is not a complicated situation. The standard approach of our Western medical system is to focus on the site of symptoms. As a result, if the cause of the pain is not where you feel the pain, standard Western therapies may not be able to offer relief which leads to these patients also being diagnosed with “chronic” pain.

Chronic Pain Treatment at Move Mountains Physio

Standard chronic pain management advice includes medication, exercise, psychotherapy and mindfulness practices. Standard physiotherapy is generally recommended but with varying levels of effectiveness for each individual.

At Move Mountains Physio, we are extensively trained in ConnectTherapy™, a treatment model that has taught us to look beyond the pain to find the true root cause in your body. As a result we are sought out by, referred and effectively treat many patients with chronic pain conditions who haven’t made progress with other therapies.

In multi-factorial conditions or when there is long-term de-conditioning present, change may be slower however restoring good movement patterns and muscle strength can still make significant improvements to pain and energy levels, including in rheumatoid, neurological and hypermobility conditions.
