Clinical Pilates
What Is Clinical Pilates?
Clinical Pilates uses traditional pilates equipment including the pilates reformer, trapeze table and wunda chair to help rehabilitate injuries or reach specific goals for optimal mobility, health and fitness.
Clinical Pilates provides unique programs for each individual while in a supportive, attention-focused semi-private setting.
What Makes Our Classes Different?
Our classes are semi-private (3:1) meaning that you get plenty of attention and ensuring that you complete the exercises safely and correctly so that you get maximum benefit for your efforts.
The classes are run by fully-qualified physiotherapists who are not only experienced in pilates but also have extensive understanding in biomechanics and how to train your body to function as a perfect whole.
You will have an individalised program to target your specific goals and concerns which means your experience and progress will far outstrip that in a standard pilates fitness class. This does mean however that we do require all participants to have at leat one private physiotherapy or pilates appointment so that we can get to know you, your body and your goals as this will enable us to create you a personalised treatment/pilates program to achieve these.
Why do we Offer Clinical Pilates?
At Move Mountains Physio we are all about fixing injuries by restoring the body’s beautiful natural movement patterns. Our extensive and intimate knowledge of good biomechanics is what enables us to guide you on this journey.
If you have been moving poorly for sometime (which is common given the demands of our current lifestyle), knowing how to move better is just the start as you may have compensatory patterns and specific strength holes that require rehabilitation to get you back to full function and sport. Home exercises can definitely get you there (and are always a feature of our physiotherapy treatment) however clinical pilates enables us to target strength and movement more specifically, as well as giving you the opportunity to practice these good biomechanics under supervision. This means you get better, faster and without having to put in as much time and effort at home. Also pilates is fun!
How Does it work?
Before joining one of our semi-private pilates classes we require all participants to book at least one physiotherapy appointment (if you have a specific injury or problem to rehabilitate) or a private pilates assessment. This enables us to get to know you, your body and your goals so that we can create you a personalised treatment/pilates program to achieve them.
After this initial appointment, you will be welcome to join one of our scheduled small-group classes or book a personalised session at time that suits you that you can either attend individually or with one or two friends or family members who are also patients at Move Mountains Physio.
Every week, we have Baby-Friendly pilates classes scheduled. You do not need to have a baby to attend one of these, however there may be babies around during these sessions.
Private Health Rebates Available
Our pilates classes are run by physiotherapists, thus private health rebates can be claimed if you have extras cover for physiotherapy.
The exact amount that you receive will be dependent on your health fund and level of cover.

Pilates is for EVERY body. From way back when Joseph Pilates designed the first reformer bed to rehabilitate injured soldiers in WWI, to when he moved to New York and taught elite dancer at the New York City Ballet Academy, pilates is a method which works for all people regardless of level, injury, gender, or age, due to the nature of having individualised programs and plenty of modifications.

Yes! Our Women’s Health Physio Jaimi has been teaching pre- and postnatal pilates for over 10 years and would love to have you in class. For those who need to bring your baby along, check our timetable for baby-friendly classes. These classes are designed to increase accessibility to new mums. I (Jaimi) expect that sometimes, there will be a little chaos and have frequently been seen teaching pilates with a bub in my arms.

Yes, please. Because our classes offer an individualised approach, we would still like to talk to you about your goals, assess your body’s strengths and weaknesses and design a program specifically for you. It will ensure the classes are challenging enough for you and meet your expectations as well.
