Sports Injury Physio
Sports injuries are any injuries that occur in a sporting context, whether it’s recreational, amateur or professional.
Sports injuries can be acute, as a result of a collision or sudden movement, or they can be an overload injury from excessive strain placed on a muscle or tendon over a long period of time. Even in the event of an acute muscle tear or tendon rupture, there is often an overload component resulting from poor biomechanics which has predisposed that particular muscle or tendon to injury.
At Move Mountains Physio our physiotherapists are avid sports people, experts in injury treatment and rehabilitation and understand the need to manage the pressing timelines of the sporting context to get you back out there ASAP.

How To Prevent Sports Injuries
At least eighty percent of the sports injuries we treat could have been prevented. There are two important factors to preventing injury, biomechanics and strength.
There is a way our body is designed to move, this is what we call good biomechanics. For example in a squat; the hips, knees and ankles should all move at the same time (not one after another) and there should be no rounding of the lower back.
When we move the way our bodies are designed to move, everything is working equally, together, with no muscles, tendons or joints doing more than their share. When we don’t move with good biomechanics, some muscles and tendons will be underworking while others are overworking, which increases your chance of injury.
Good general strength is the second factor in injury prevention. Strength training however, is a common cause of many biomechanical inefficiencies we see as poor training programs and technique can quickly create muscle imbalance.
Restoring and maintaining optimal biomechanics is the foundation of what we do at Move Mountains Physio and is the key to enhancing your sports performance. Regardless of your sport or goal, we can identify and restore imbalance and inefficiencies in your movements before they cause injury, and guide you with appropriate strength training so that you can push your physical limits and perform at your best..
